The man behind the innovation
Peter Wakeling the founder of Wetpot® Industries, is the driving force behind Wetpots. Peter has spent the last 10 years developing Wetpots to the finished state they are today. As a ceramist and a passionate water conservationist, Peter has spent years fine tuning Wetpots, through trials and gardener feedback, to make Wetpots a state of the art watering system.Peter is a world leader and pioneer in subsurface, porous pot, gravity fed under pressure watering systems. He has developed subsurface porous pots into the sealed gravity fed under pressure watering system that it is today.
The Wetpot® Watering System provides for greater watering efficiency with no surface evaporation or runoff, fertilising straight to the root system, no reliance on power and less weed competition.
The Wetpot® technology is very clever, leading edge and unique as it effectively controls water flow through the use of ceramics. Not just any ceramic pot can produce the same sustainable water conservation capablilities that Wetpots achieves.
Rural Applications tested
The University of Pretoria etd National Irrigation Research Station (NIRS) Mazabuka District research with a type of wetpot system achieved the following results:*Optimised crop yields per unit of water. Statistically significant yield increases for: cauliflower +38%, maize +58%, rape +26%.
*Plant height increases of 87.5% and 90% for apple and citrus compared to 19.5% and 18.5% for can irrigation.
*Inground Wetpots are ideal for plantings in remoter areas where regular watering is difficult.
*Better tree seedling establishment and significantly less mortality were observed.
*Reduced frequency of irrigation and total amount of water applied.
Frequently asked questions
Will Wetpots break from garden roots? No. Wetpots have been tested in situations where they are entangled in very strong tree roots and to date no Wetpot® has ever broken from the pressure of roots.
Will there be less weeds?
In your garden, weeds are suppressed as they are not provided with water in order to germinate on the soil's surface, thus reducing transpiration losses of irrigation water through weeds, as the surface soil layer remains dry (except after rain), while the soil below the surface remains moist at all times.
Delivering fertiliser directly to the root system of the plants means that weeds that would normally flourish on the soil surface are not able to access the nutrients available directly to the plant.
Why are Wetpots a Closed System?
The Wetpot® watering system is a closed system. Water can only seep out of the ceramic pots. There is no way for ants or dirt to get into the system to clog it, as can happen with other forms of irrigation.
